Bartering in the Land of Abundance. The Floating Lab Collective is a group of Metropolitan artists. As part of the ongoing project 43.5 actions in USONIA, we have been researching a variety of practices to establish relations between communities, and expanding on the use of art as social linkage. As a result various community based arts projects have been established in the Metropolitan area of Washington exploring different formats to create dialogue, exchange, and participation. "Bartering in the Land of Abundance" is initiated with empty plastics bags that will be distributed in some neighborhoods, in collaboration with neighborhood organizations. The idea is that the neighborhoods will contribute the objects to be used for barter. For every object the giver will be asked to write information about what he/she knows about the object. In the gallery, each object is sketched and the known information about it is added to the drawing. The objects are then displayed in the gallery for barter with the people visiting the gallery. A sketch will also be made of each bartered object and similar information about the object will be collected as a way of creating an archive. You can pick up the object that was traded for the object that you donated in Transformer Gallery on August 30 from 1pm to 7pm. If you don’t pick it up by that time it will become part of the archive of the Floating Lab Collective. Important dates: The drawing and the documentation of this project will become part of the Floating Museum, which will be parked in the Katzen Art center during the show “Close Encounter”. The Katzen Art center is located in: 4400 Massachusetts Ave. NW, Washington DC 20016, From: September 13 to October 26, Open: 11 am to 4 pm (Tues-Sun). ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
